I just watched 'The Year of Living Dangerously' on HBO and although it's an old movie, it still hasn't lost its bite and these are the reasons why I find it interesting -
1. Mel Gibson looks hot in his younger days!! He is now some sort of pariah in Hollywood due to his racist remarks but in his younger days, especially in this movie, he certainly possessed the golden boy look that only a Hollywood actor can project! It was great that the director asked him to be shirtless in many scenes! He's Mad Max for several good reasons!
2. Linda Hunt's fantastic gender-bending performance. She won an Oscar for this, and deservedly so. I always thought Hillary Swank's gender-bending performance in 'Boys Don't Cry' was a first but I realize now that this time of acting was already done years before!
3. The presence of Bembol Roco and Kuh Ledesma in the cast. And they just don't have cameo roles! They have several scenes where they really interact with Mel Gibson! Imagine that! So now, it is in today's generation's hands to replicate their achievement. And I mean, not just a guesting for a TV show - like what Charice did on Glee!
